  • The floor map was planned and executed by Charlotte, NC, concrete artist Tom Schulz. It presents a historicized map of the Mohawk Valley area surrounding the museum and offers interpretive vignettes relating to the area including an image of a Dutch barn and Sir William Johnson’s seal, which includes English and Native Americans surrounding a tree with a heart. The spheres, or globes in the map include “the pot that washes itself” at Canajoharie, the baseball field at Cooperstown, an aerial view of the Adirondacks (which was a favorite summer home for the Arkell family), and an image derived from Arthur Rackham’s illustrations of the Leatherstocking Tales.
