March 6, 2026 through April 24, 2026
As a lifelong resident Phyllis has been inspired by the uniquely beautiful landscape of the Mohawk Valley, and surrounding area. Her pastels attempt to capture the changes of the seasons from the crisp cool light of winter, to the new life of spring, the warmth of summer, and the vibrant hues of autumn. Phyllis has exhibited in numerous group shows, solo shows, and juried shows, including the 2026 National Pastel Show sponsored by the Adirondack Pastel Society. She received a New York State individual artists grant in 2020. Her work is available at 25 Main Collective in Cherry Valley and Micropolis Gallery in Gloversville. Phyllis is President of The Arts Factory of Montgomery County, a member artist of Micropolis Gallery and a member artist of the Cooperstown Art Association and the Smithy Gallery in Cooperstown.
Artist Statement by Britt LoSacco: "Since I began pursuing visual art, I’ve considered painting to be my Work. There is something solid and substantive about a painting, particularly an oil painting. It is the stuff of the Old Masters. It colors the halls of renowned museums. Small wonder that it tends to be perceived as serious in a way that can elude other mediums. My life drawing practice, on the other hand, began as just that—practice. It was secondary, supplemental to the more important Work of painting. Over time, however, I began to see a sort of narrative emerging from these sessions. There was something lovely and evocative in the partially-rendered figures. They weren’t merely practice informing the more important Work of painting; they were Work in their own right. The show that hangs here is an ode to my practice as an artist, to the push/pull of the disciplines that currently comprise my Work, or, as I’m calling them: figments and figures. Figments: My paintings. Made in solitude. The result of kernels of inspiration popping in my brain, feelings and images that I work painstakingly to realize. Dozens to upwards of a hundred hours spent just in the actual painting, never mind the initial photography, reference-making, paint-mixing, etc. Figures: Work from life. Done in community. Limited to the minutes or hours of a model's pose. Complicated by shifting light and variations in body position over time. No advance planning, only seeing and reacting to what's here now. Each of these modalities is vital to who I am as an artist in this moment. They challenge and inform each other--stretching different muscles, honing complementary edges. I am happy to share them together as a collection, not only juxtaposed but in conversation with one another."
Artist Statement by Fernando Carpaneda: "My artistic style has evolved over decades of exploration across various mediums, including sculpture, painting, and drawing. I strive to address relevant social taboos in my work, often delving into themes deeply rooted in the punk/underground scene or LGBTQIA+ contexts. My pieces serve as a commentary on issues of exclusion, belonging, racial and gender discrimination, social inequality, and anti-fascism, particularly poignant in today's world. In a society marked by division, I believe art serves as a powerful tool for fostering dialogue. Regardless of one's background, age, or societal status, my art aims to resonate with individuals, inviting them to engage with the themes of my work and, by extension, with their own identities. Central to my artistic expression is the celebration of ordinary people and the embrace of natural, authentic bodies. Through this approach, I seek to create a sense of intimacy and relatability, drawing viewers closer to my work and, ultimately, to themselves."

Three Solo Shows featuring George Dirolf, Jesse Gigandet, and Anna Voss
August 1, 2025 - October 5, 2025
George Dirolf is a painter, printmaker, and graphic artist. As a printmaker he presently focusing on end-grain wood engravings (end-grain because it allows a finer line...a 19th century technique to be printed alongside type). He also work in large scale charcoal drawings on mylar; and oil paintings which range from smaller plein air works to larger studio pieces. He draws inspiration from nature - whether the birds crowding around the feeders outside my studio window, or deep into wild lands. He especially enjoy bushwhacking in the Adirondacks and Catskills and stumbling upon quiet hidden revelations be they micro or macro...springtails on snow, or a fern glade suddenly spotlit in a forest of maple trees...his art is a reflection on those moments.
Jesse Gigandet has been working as a professional illustrator and graphic designer for over 40 years, but his passion for drawing and painting goes back as far as he can remember. He is deeply inspired by the wonders of nature, and capturing its beauty through art is one of his greatest joys. Wildlife is his favorite subject, and he loves experimenting with various mediums—watercolor, oils, acrylic, pen & ink, and scratchboard to bring his visions to life.
Anna Voss is a visual artist based in Schenectady, NY, with a background in fine arts and illustration. She has received awards and exhibited with the National Arts Club, Society of Illustrators, and has been published in American Illustration. Inspired by current events, historical texts, and classical iconography, Anna utilizes light and color to conceptualize the incorporeal. Voss is interested in how the waking world and memories of the past influence the unconscious mind. Through this exploration, she examines the interaction between surreal elements and tangible forms, using dynamic chiaroscuro and intense color to express this relationship. Her work blurs the boundary between reality and dream, revealing unspoken thought and the effect it has on the human experience.

Three Solo Shows featuring Kevin Kuhne, Suzette Palmer Usher, and Susan Lunow
March 1, 2025 - April 22, 2025
Kevin Kuhne's interest in local history, architecture, people, and conservation inspires and motivates his art. He most enjoys working en plein air and captures the experience and excitement of being on site. His preferred medium is watercolor, which he states, "requires extensive value planning, design, and preliminary sketches, but results in the lively and spontaneous look that I aim for in the finished paintings." His teaching is an important impetus for his work, pushing him to constantly examine and explain the formal and technical problems of painting and design. Kevin Kunhe's work in the Regional Art Galleries features watercolor paintings that bring to life cityscapes, art galleries, quiet gardens, and scenes of the home in a vibrant and captivating way.
Susan Ann Lunow's favorite mediums are watercolor, graphite, and pen and ink. She notes, "a painting’s inspiration may come from a walk in the woods, the light shining through the trees, the sparkling reflections off the ripples in a stream, the ice forming along the edge of a river, or limbs of leafless trees being coated with ice. Animals often appear in my paintings, sometimes as a surprise, like a fox or deer hidden in the brush." She often sketches a scene on site with pencil or pen and ink. Then uses the sketch and photos she has taken to complete the painting in the studio. Her work on view in the Regional Art Galleries reflects this love of nature and the simple beauty of a walk in the woods.
Suzette Palmer Usher works mainly in water colors and en plein air. She is a largely self taught artist who has rediscovered her love of art after retiring from the medical field. Her work on view in the Regional Art Galleries features scenes from nature, everyday objects, and portraits. She states "seeing my art hang in the Arkell feels like I have come full circle back to my artistic roots in my beloved Canajoharie."

Todd Boebel - Steeples along the Mohawk and Schoharie
“What happens to an old church once its doors are closed?” Using black & white views of discreet church exteriors, Boebel traces the development of church architecture in the region through the nineteenth century while shedding light on its Protestant past and present. There are examples of churches abandoned, churches that have taken on diminished roles or have been repurposed, and others that remain open and reflect the simplicity of rural believers.
Robert Coppola - Frame of Mind
Robert Coppola’s urban upbringing is reflected in his approach to photography; “My landscapes are nostalgic. Photographed in multiple locations, the urban landscapes depict the present reimagined. The rural landscapes betray my awe of the natural beauty of open spaces where farms dot the landscape.”
Phil Scalia - The Snows of Canajoharie
Phil Scalia’s photographs celebrate the raw intensity, danger, and sparse beauty of the rural landscape in winter. “I like to go out in the worst weather, it gives an edge to the shooting. It's scary, it's addictive. A mistake can kill you. I spend as much time gear-tweaking clothing and snow tires as photo gear.”

The Art of New York: Annual Juried Art Show – 2021
May 14 - July 21, 2021
"I am honored to serve as juror for this year's annual show at the Arkell Museum. It was exciting to view new, never before seen works by artists from across the state. The challenge to edit 217 works (the great majority of which are of excellent quality and certainly eligible for inclusion) down to 46 was difficult. I hope that my selections reflect the diversity of media, aesthetic sensitivity and commitment to craftsmanship that I found among these works." – Paul Marcellino
Paul Marcellino received a BFA from Temple University and MFA from the Graduate School of Figurative Art at the New York Academy of Art in Manhattan. He has exhibited in group and solo shows throughout the US, served as juror for regional and national exhibitions, and received funding for his work from the Putnam Arts Council, Upper Catskill Community Center for the Arts, and the New York State Council for the Arts. Endangered Farmscapes: Paintings by James Coe
July 30 – October 13, 2021
The historic architecture of our local farms has literally settled into the soils of upstate New York and Vermont. Today, the barns that our ancestors raised are an integral part of our surroundings, and yet, they are disappearing and endangered. With these observations in mind artist James Coe has assembled this exhibition of oil paintings featuring local barns and farms—landscapes that he refers to as farmscapes. On view in the Regional Art Galleries from Friday, July 30th through October 13, 2021.
James Coe is known worldwide as a wildlife and bird artist, and as the illustrator of numerous bird guides, including his own Golden Guide – Eastern Birds. For the past 20 years Jim has been focusing primarily on landscapes in oil paints. “The subject matter reflects my passions in life: birds, nature, old barns and our endangered rural landscape— but the thread that ties all of my artwork together is more conceptual. My goal is to find in each motif a balance of abstract design and evocative light, and to create a luscious surface of paint and canvas.”

Upstate/Downstate – Views of New York – Nature Photography by Dave Waite & City Life: The Photographs of Ken Ratner
New Closing Date!
October 14, 2020
Both artists exhibited in The Art of New York: Annual Juried Art Show in 2019 with Dave Waite receiving the Best in Show award.
I express my personal creativity and unique view of nature. My subjects are the scenes I encounter as I travel by foot or boat through the wilderness areas in New York State. I have been influenced not only by contemporary artists and photographers, but also the pictorial artists of the past.
Dave Waite, 2019
Ken Ratner’s black and white Gelatin silver prints are focused on humanity and the commonplace:
I feel most alive when I am canvassing the streets, or any other place where there is visual stimulation, with camera in hand, looking to record something that is significant. I photograph because I want to record what is meaningful to me, and to share with others so that, and this is my hope, the world will become a more humane place. I would like for people to feel what I felt when I photographed.

Lasting Impressions: Prints by George Dirolf, Dennis Revitzky, and Amy Silberkleit
through May 1, 2022
The tactile effect of paper being pressed onto a worked surface to create an image has captivated artists and viewers for centuries. Three accomplished visual artists present prints on paper in this spring show: George Dirolf, Dennis Revitzky, and Amy Silberkleit. All were selected by juror Paul Marcellino to exhibit in The Art of New York: Annual Juried Art Show in 2021, with Dirolf taking a Juror’s Choice award and Silberkleit earning Best in Show. Stone lithography, linocut, and woodcut are a few of the many print styles on exhibit in this show of exceptional draftsmanship and mastery of technique.
George Dirolf, of Loudonville, NY is a printmaker "presently focusing on end-grain wood engravings (end-grain because it allows a finer line...a 19th century technique to be printed alongside type). I also work in large scale charcoal drawings on mylar; and oil paintings which range from smaller plein air works to larger studio pieces. I draw my inspiration from nature - whether the birds crowding around the feeders outside my studio window, or deep into wild lands. I especially enjoy bushwhacking in the Adirondacks and Catskills and stumbling upon quiet hidden revelations be they micro or macro...springtails on snow, or a fern glade suddenly spot-lit in a forest of maple trees...my art is a reflection on those moments." For 27 years he has been an invited member of the Oakroom Artists (Schenectady) and a Teacher of Art for Bethlehem Central School. His work has garnered 1st place or Best in Show Awards at the Laffer Gallery (Schuylerville, NY), The Shirt Factory (Glens Falls), Paul Smith's College, Tri-county Arts Council, and Lake Placid Center for the Arts.
Dennis Revitzky, of Honeyoe Falls, NY, has been making linoleum prints on a continuing basis for over forty years. An art teacher for 33 years, he pursued graduate studies in fine art at SUNY. His work is in many private, corporate, and institutional collections, and has been included in over 120 juried exhibitions. Commissioned to create print editions for the Memorial Art Gallery, Rochester, New York and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, Missouri, he also contributed linocuts to the Original Print Calendar produced by the Washington Area Printmakers from 1997 until 2012. "Much of my work involves landscape, but I also use the human figure for subject matter, and occasionally, still-life. In working with landscape, I am always aware of the beauty and essence of place, and I want to convey the mysterious and spiritual elements of that place. My work tries to evoke a certain mood, a feeling of mystery – a feeling where the familiar is recognized, and yet one in which some aspects seem strange and enigmatic. My linocuts are original, hand-pulled prints usually made in small editions of ten to twenty. The color prints are made with only one or two blocks which are cut away and printed using the reduction method, and some of the colors may be printed using the stencil technique. I often use modeling paste on areas of the linoleum to create texture effects. All linocuts are made with oil-base inks on Rives lightweight paper, and are printed by hand using a wooden spoon."
Amy Silberkleit makes detailed drawings and lithographs of landscapes and natural objects. Using lithography crayons and ink, graphite, carbon dust and colored pencil she reproduces the texture, structure and diversity of forms found in nature. In her studio, feathers, leaves, wings and branches are arranged to create relationships between the specimens. Dramatic lighting further animates the composition. Often larger than life size and precisely rendered, each object's beauty is highlighted. Hiking in the woods of the Northern Catskills near her home inspire her landscapes. Born and raised in New York, Amy received a B.A. from Stony Brook University where she focused on printmaking. She was the artistic director of The Rod and the Rose Puppet Theatre which performed throughout the Northeast. She has sold puppets and fabric collages in craft festivals. In 2016, she received her Certificate in Natural Science Art and Illustration from The New York Botanical Gardens. The technical training received there prompted her to return to drawing, and classes at the Art Students League inspired her to build a lithography studio.

Living in Northville, NY, and working primarily in oil, Marion Kratky's focus has been on landscapes of the Adirondacks. She offers a rich color palette, bold brushwork, and a strong sense of light to create works that are uniquely her own. This show explores her impressions of the natural landscape informed by the Adirondacks and other places observed firsthand. Recent awards include 2nd Place, Masters Division, in the Central Adirondack Art Show in 2018, 2017 and 2016 at View, Old Forge, and 1st Place, Oil, in the 2017 and 2016 Annual Hagaman Art Show with a previous Best of Show. Other juried shows include The Art of New York: Annual Juried Art Show at the Arkell Museum & Canajoharie Library, The Frederic Remington Art Museum International Show, The Bennington, and the 2018 Adirondack Artist Guild Annual Juried Show, with a previous Best of Show there.
City Scenes: Albany to Canajoharie - Albany, NY, resident Kevin Kuhne specializes in watercolor depictions of the Capital Region. With a B.S in Art Education, he teaches classes at South Colonie School District, Arlene's Artist Materials, and other venues. Kevin is an active member of many local arts organizations, including the Oak Room Artists. He is a Signature Member of the Northeast Watercolor Society and has shown in the Artists of the Mohawk Hudson Regional in 2014 and 2015, and the 2014 Adirondack National Exhibition of American Watercolors. "My interest in local history, architecture, people, and conservation inspires and motivates my work. I most enjoy working plein air, throughout the year, often using my car as my studio. Formally, the beautiful shapes, color patterns, and atmosphere of everyday scenes is what attracts me. Working on-site allows me to convey the energy and life in the streets and neighborhoods where I find these elements."
Doug Mess, of Tonawanda, NY, working in oils and acrylics, is a painter of two distinct styles. One falls between Realism and Impressionism and the other is grounded in Expressionism. He believes "that the strong lines and spatial relationships that exist in much of my work are greatly influenced by my long career in graphic design. Like a photographer who takes hundreds of photos to find one or two great images, I sometimes do hundreds of sketches until I find the perfect image to put on canvas." Doug's work has been exhibited in group and solo shows in the Buffalo, NY, area, Cooperstown Art Association's 2018 Annual National Juried Show, and The Art of New York: Annual Juried Art Show at the Arkell Museum and Canajoharie Library in 2016 and 2017.
